MY EXTENDED FAMILY

Some of my poems are from personal experiences. This is one such poem which was written 10 years ago. When I accepted Yeshua as my Jewish Messiah in 2010, being legally blind, I hadn’t driven since ’99. My congregation was about 45 minutes away and a wonderful couple, Denny & Kathy Miller went out of their way every week to pick me up thus making sure that I would be able to worship and fellowship with the congregation. In 2004 Denny was best man at our wedding, and not too long after that they moved out of state. Recently, they moved back and last week I was blessed to see them at Sabbath services and look forward to seeing them for many years to come. Thus the Title:

MY EXTENDED FAMILY

God in His infinite wisdom
Has chosen to grant me
The blessing and joy
Of an extended family

The love we share together
Is manifested in God's praise
The lesson that we’ve learned from this will
Remain in our hearts for the rest of our days

We will be a family always
In heaven and on the earth
Though others may see the love we share
Only the Lord God knows its true worth

SOCIAL INSECURITY

SOCIAL INSECURITY

I got a letter in the mail today
It came from Social Security
They had received my application
To be put on permanent disability

I foresaw a government foul up coming
Despite the fact that I’m visually impaired
But it was the reason for my rejection
That would make me really scared

Someone concluded that I could
Return to my former type of work
The person who made this decision
Had to really be some sort of jerk

My students have an emotional disability
By acting out scenarios that I may not see
The person most at risk here
Would most definitely be me

Should they decide to run from the room
If I saw them naturally I would give chase
Not seeing everything that’s in front of me
It’s very likely that I’d fall flat on my face

In a nutshell the crux of the problem is this
The eye doctor and my principal both agree
That anyone around me could be at risk
Because of the things that I might not see

Whoever is responsible for this decision
Really needs to go back and reevaluate
And even set up a one on one with me
So that I’d be approved at a later date

A FATHER'S DAY POETIC PRAYER

Every so often, I see a poem written by another poet that I enjoy so much, that I ask their permission to put it on my website. This poem was written by Father Gavin Badway of the Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, which is located in West Palm Beach, Fl. Thank you Father Gavin and God bless you for this beautiful poetic work of art

A FATHER’S DAY POETIC PRAYER

I think of God the Father
And I think of God the Son.
And marvel at the Love they share,
A Love that makes them One.

I think of you, my father too,
And of the love we share,
A love that makes us one as well,
A unity so rare.

You both have given life to me,
A gift I can’t repay
But know that I would give my life for you,
Until my dying day.

Your strong embrace speaks quietly
Of how your love transcends,
Mere spoken words which can’t explain
The bond that never ends.

And as I age each passing year,
My love for you transcends
Beyond the bond of father/child
To everlasting friends

I thank you, father here below
And Father from above,
But most of all, I thank the Lord
For showing me a Father’s love.

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY

GOD LEFT ME A MESSAGE TODAY

GOD LEFT ME A MESSAGE TODAY

There have been days when I felt like writing
Yet I drew a blank but not because I was tired
The reason that nothing was coming to me
Is because all of my words are God inspired

When God is ready He will let me know
Just like the verses that I’m writing here
The words come through the Holy Spirit
And that’s how I know that the Lord is near

God said that what my spirit says is what I’d get
And if I should do it my way He will surely know
But if I will be obedient to whatever the Lord says
Each one of my thoughts and words will overflow

So as you see I’m just a vessel
Doing what God tells me to do
I am the benefactor of this blessing
I hope and I pray that you will be too

LAUGHTER IS GOD'S MEDICAL PRESCRIOPTION

LAUGHTER IS GOD’S MEDICAL PRESCRIPTION

We know that God has a sense of humor
Just take one look at us who He created
I’m sure that He enjoys a good joke
Just as long as it is not X-rated

He created laughter for a specific reason
It helps to pick us up when we are down
Making you chuckle or laugh so loudly that
It creates a smile where there was a frown

Sometimes our laughter can get out of hand
We laugh so hard that it even makes us cry
And there are times when we can’t stop
It doesn’t even matter how hard we try

So each time that you feel a laugh coming on
Give thanks to God for this free medication
Knowing that He’s making you feel so much better
Is just one of His many cures for any given situation

LASTING FRIENSHIPS (A POEM WRITTEN TO A SPECIAL FRIEND)

LASTING FRIENDSHIPS (A POEM WRITTEN ABOUT A SPECIAL FRIEND)

This poem is about a special friendship
That I’ve had for over sixty-seven years
How many friendships do you know that last
As many years before it eventually disappears

The first time that we met was in kindergarten
Three years later her mother was my teacher
I guess at that time in our lives
I’d always be able to reach her

I can even remember a time back in grade school when
We both were on the honor roll because we were smart
And also that our birthdays
Are exactly one day apart

After high school like so many others
We drifted apart for whatever reason
But we saw each other at a thirty-five year reunion
And exchanged cards during the Christmas season

Twenty years later the Lord provided a way for us to be reunited
I learned that her children and I live not too far from each other
My friend was flying down to Atlanta for a visit and
That is how I would be able to visit with their mother

A few days later we met for dinner
And caught up on each other’s life
I also met her children and
I introduced her to my wife

The most important aspect about our friendship of so many years is that
Though we live many miles apart we are there emotionally for each other
For we are both grounded in faith in the Lord our God
Just like it should be for any spiritual sister and brother

GOD'S IS YOUR MARRIAGE COUNSELOR

GOD IS YOUR MARRIAGE COUNSELOR

It's a very sad but true fact that half
Of all first marriages end in divorce
The ratio of second ones is just as bad and
These people need to chart another course

There's nothing wrong with seeking professional help
But the roots go much deeper and are very depressing
They need to seek one with a Spiritual background
Who may tell them to go to God and start confessing

There are multitudes of reasons for these statistics
Communication money and cheating are at the top
Faith prayer unconditional love and understanding
Are numerous ways that the Lord will make it stop

The bible says that men needs respect
And that women need to be shown love
There's only one place where this all starts
And that's believing in the Lord God above

Perhaps you feel that you unable to get to that point
Well brothers and sisters I'll tell you how it’s done
Just put your complete trust in Messiah Yeshua
For all things happen through the Holy One

Then when everything is said and done
You'll no longer be a part of that statistic
With God on you side and an understanding spouse
Trust me the rest of your life will turn out fantastic

MY LONG LOST ROSE

Amidst my flower garden blooming
There stands a single rose
The most beautiful of flowers
How it got there no one knows

Its radiance sweeps you off your feet
As you view it with sheer admiration
And as the seasons turn to frost
It begins to feel a strange sensation

Finally when the earth has hardened
It begins to lose that grand array
For it senses something missing
And its withering blossoms fade away

All throughout the winter season
It replenishes a quality oh so rare
Where some just never make it
Because it’s as if they didn’t care

Comes the spring when all is warm
It always seems to re-appear
There must be something special
That makes it grow year after year

The barren spots around it must be filled
Many are planted but only one grows
And whenever that flowers start to blossom
I know that I will see my long lost rose
